Behaviour Modification Training

for behaviour problem

Most dogs growl, bark, lunge and even bite out of fear. It is important to understand what triggers your dog to behave aggressively and get professional help to assist you in assessing the problem behaviours and develop a carefully-thought training plan based on behavioral science to change your dog's emotional response towards the trigger - using positive reinforcement.

Behaviour Modification Training Programme is a systematic behaviour modification programme that uses positive reinforcement systematic counter conditioning and desensitisation to reduce or even eliminate the problem behaviour. We will start with a Behaviour Assessment to evaluate your dog's behaviour problems and help you to undertsand why your dog is showing these problem behaviours. Afterwards we will estimate what can be achieved with training and how many sessions it may take to reach a level where both dogs and owners are comfortable with.

With Behaviour Modification Training, the owner's commitment is half the battle. If you are committed, you can change your dog's quality of life. As your dog becomes more confident, you will enjoy doing more activities with your dog such as walking at the park or even bringing him to your favourite cafe.

This programme is suitable to tackle any behaviour issues, the most common issues are:

  • Aggressive/ reactive to people and dogs
  • Dogs that are shy and fearful
  • Lunging, Growling and Barking towards stranger and other dogs
  • Home Alone - separation anxiety
  • Pulling on leash
  • Hyperactive Dog
  • Excessive barking
  • Resource Guarding
  • Reactive to handling (vet check, groomer, etc)

We use science-based systematic counter conditioning and desensitisation protocol to change a dog's negative emotional reaction towards something a dog feared or disliked. It involves a step-by-step process of exposing a dog to a less intense version of the thing or event he fears, in such a way that his fear isn’t triggered. Gradually, the process produces a neutral or positive emotional reaction to the sight of the previously feared or disliked person, animal, event, place or object. This treatment, paired with positive reinforcement, will eliminate the underlying reason for the behavior problem in the first place.

How does it work?

  • We will start with a Behaviour Assessment to evaluate the dog’s behaviour issues and estimate what can be achieved with training and how many sessions it will take for both dog and owner to be comfortable in daily activities.
  • Afterwards we will plan out a suitable treatment or training plan and get started with training.
