Puppy Life & Social Skills

for socialisation & problem prevention

This puppy group training class is a 6-week programme for young puppies (2-5 months); designed to provide the foundation for life and social skills. Early puppyhood is a critical time for socialisation & learning, but finding a safe environment and similar-age pups for healthy and appropriate interaction is difficult. Our group puppy classes allows puppies to interact with people and dogs in a safe and positive environment

Puppy Life & Social Skills Programme is developed by Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behaviour, USA. The programme has a unique approach that combines veterinary expertise with dog training expertise. This programme focuses on the importance of puppy socialisation in a positive and fun way, providing foundation experiences for your new puppy, address normal puppy behaviours and prevent the development of behaviour issues including fear and reactivity or aggression.

Socialisation & Vaccinations

The first three months are the period when sociability outweighs fear. Participation in well-run classes helps minimal potential problems such as fearfulness towards strangers, other dogs and anxiety. The potential risk needs to be considered, however the risks associated with attending puppy classes are minimal compared to the benefits of attending well-run puppy classes. Research published this year shows vaccinated puppies attending classes were no more at risk of Parvovirus infection compared to puppies that did not attend a class.*

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour (AVSAB) released a position paper outlining the importance of early puppy socialisation, preferably before the puppy reaches 12 to 16 weeks old. AVSAB stated that in general, puppies can start puppy socialisation classes as early as 8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. AVSAB believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialisation before puppies are fully vaccinated.

We also take precaution by cleaning our class room using Byopet Pet Surface Sanitiser that will kill 99.99% bacteria and viruses to protect puppies in our class. The cleaning material is safe and gentle to pet and human.
